TV Ads – 1979- Fiat Cars + Robt Conrad For Eveready Batteries + Jack In The Box + Dragone Wine

DOG COMMENTARY:

Fiat Automobiles is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy….which is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles….when Fiat reorganized its automobile business….and traces its history back to 1899 when the first Fiat automobile, the Fiat 4 HP, was produced.  During its more than century-long history Fiat remained the largest automobile manufacturer in Europe….as well as the third in the world after General Motors and Ford for over twenty years….until the car industry crisis in the late 1980’s….about a decade after this tv ad was aired.  Fiat has also manufactured railway engines, military vehicles, farm tractors,  aircraft and weapons such as the Fiat–Revelli Modello 1914.

Eveready Battery Company, Inc. is an American manufacturer of battery brands Eveready and Energizer…. which is owned by Energizer Holdings….with Its headquarters being located in St. Louis, Missouri   Prior to March 1, 1980, the company’s alkaline battery had been called the Eveready Alkaline Battery (1959–1968), Eveready Alkaline Energizer (1968–1974) and Eveready Alkaline Power Cell (1974–February 29, 1980).  On March 1, 1980, just after this commercial was made…it was re-branded under its current name, Energizer.  In 1986, Union Carbide sold its Battery Products Division to Ralston Purina Company for $1.4 billion….and becoming the Eveready Battery Company, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary. At that time, the Eveready and Energizer batteries held 52 percent market share. The company under Ralston lost market share to rival Duracell.

The Pearl Brewing Company, known as Pearl, was an American brewery, established in 1883 in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA.  In 1985, Pearl’s parent company purchased the Pabst Brewing Company and assumed the Pabst name.  In 1999, the Pabst Brewing Company began transferring its production to Miller Brewing, on a contract basis….and closed all of its breweries.  Pearl beer is still in production at Miller Beer’s Ft. Worth, Texas facility….but the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio was closed in 2001.  Since then, the former brewery was purchased by Silver Ventures, Inc., which has made the property the crown jewel in revitalization efforts of southern Midtown and northern Downtown San Antonio.

Jack in the Box is an American fast-food restaurant chain founded February 21, 1951 by Robert O. Peterson in San Diego, California….where it is still headquartered today….as the chain has 2,200 locations, primarily serving the West Coast of the United States…..along with elected large urban areas in the eastern portion of the US including Texas and the Charlotte metropolitan area. The company also formerly operated the Qdoba Mexican Grill chain until Apollo Global Management bought the chain in December 2017.  Food items include a variety of hamburger and cheeseburger sandwiches along with selections of internationally themed foods such as Mexican tacos and Chinese egg rolls.

All that we could find about Dragone Wine was a photo with a Lento label that matched the name….but we don’t feel this 1979 Dragone Wine was the same….for we think it was more like a small step above the ilk of MD 20/20, Boones Farm, Reunite etc….and we don’t think the brand is around any more.  However, both Modern Furniture Rentals and Audio Concepts are still in operation in Austin, TX today….which means they’ve stood the test of time in the rental and electronics retail industries..
