TV Ads – 1979 – Lone Star Beer + The Ice Capades At The Erwin Special Events Center

DOG ASIDE:

The Lone Star Brewery was built and opened in 1884…as the first large mechanized brewery in Texas…..after Adolphus Busch, of Anheuser-Busch, founded it along with a group of San Antonio businessmen.  The original castle-like brewery building now houses the San Antonio Museum of Art.  Lone Star beer was the company’s main brand…..which was marketed as “The National Beer of Texas”…. which sponsored events all over the great State of Texas….like this “Charro Days Fiesta” that takes place in South Texas each year.  The Lone Star name is now owned by Pabst Brewing Co…..and production of Lone Star is currently contracted out to Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth.

The Ice Capades were traveling entertainment shows featuring theatrical ice skating performances…. which often featured former Olympic and US National Champion figure skaters…..who had retired from formal competition….which started in 1940….as the Ice Capades grew rapidly and prospered for 50 years. A decline in popularity ensued in the 1990’s….and the show went out of business around 1995. There have been several attempts to revive the show and its name.
