As Henry Tillman and Mike Tyson enter the arena for the feature bout of the night on June 16, 1990….HBO boxing commentators Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant provided analysis and introspective thoughts of the two combatants….as Tyson was starting to rebound his career after losing his title to Buster Douglas….and Tillman was a viable contender “with the heart of a lion….and the chin of a lamb”
After Tyson lost to Douglas….he recovered with a first round knockouts of Henry Tillman and Alex Stewart in his next two fights. Tyson’s victory over Tillman, the 1984 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist, enabled Tyson to avenge his two amateur losses at Tillman’s hands. These bouts set up an elimination match for another shot at the undisputed world heavyweight championship….which Evander Holyfield had taken from Douglas in his first defense of the title.
