DOG COMMENTARY:
After posting 1800 vintage videos on this site over the past 2 years…. It is this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile’s opinion….that some of my very favorite videos are the ones that show highlights of the entire year in sports….like this HBO produced special look at 1980. Every year that passes by embody some absolutely incredible feats of athleticism…plus there are always wonderful side story that attach to each history making event.
These highlighted journeys through the the pages of sport for that specific year covered….will become “history lessons” for future generations about the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomer generation….as seen through their sports…. their comedy….their music….their news….their TV ads….and their specials….of which all are more than aptly represented within the confines of ImaSportsphile.
The year 1980 presented so many choices of what to cover by HBO….and in our opinion there were two major accomplishments that out-distanced themselves from all others….and both happened at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics….and both were Miracles On Ice….as the USA Mens Olympic Hockey Team defeated the mighty Russians on their way to winning the gold medal…along with USA speed skater Eric Heiden winning every gold medal (5) available in his sport….and the truth be known….we at ImaSportsphile consider Heiden’s miracle to be a bigger one than the hockey team’s…. albeit he will never get the accolades and adornment that “the boys with the sticks” got and still get.
Any way you cut the pie….this is a great video by virtue of having highlights from both miracles mentioned above…but 1980 offered so much more. ENJOY!!!
