Boxing – WBC Light Heavyweight Title – Marvin Pops Johnson VS Mathew Franklin

DOG COMMENTARY:

The light heavyweight division of boxing during the golden age of boxing from 1964 to 1995 had two legendary light heavyweight champions in Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns….along with two definitely super great almost legendary fighters in Evander Holyfield and Michael Spinks…..and several great to super great boxers….of which Marvin Pops Johnson and Mathew Franklin (Mathew Saad Muhammad in their 2nd fight) were two of them.  Pops Johnson won the WBC title once and the WBA title twice….which put him on my list my super great champions list….whereas Franklin was a great boxer, on the verge of being a super great champion during this era.

These two fought a really tough action fight…..throwing bombs at each other for 8 rounds…..when Franklin landed a big over-hand right that sent Pops Johnson to the canvas for the count…..as the winner Franklin with a bloody face was so spent by the end of the fight that he could hardly stand on his own…..for this is a fight well worth watching.
